Mercedes Schlapp's role in the role of White House Strategic Communications Advisor isn't easy. It is not easy for Mercedes Schlapp to be the advisor to strategic communications for the White House. Schlapp remains focused throughout, by working closely White House policy and political teams, as well as shop owners and the legislative affairs department. In her current role, she has concentrated on several topics, including safety at schools as well as opioid abuse. She has not had much contact with the media in her role. The media attention she received in March came when her name appeared as one of the contenders for the job of replacing Hope Hicks. The focus of her work has been on areas including security at schools, opioids, infrastructure as well as trade. The position she holds, however, means that Schlapp is not in contact with many media. The company received lots of attention from the media when she was identified as a candidate to replace Hope Hicks, the communications director. There has been a lot of fighting. Schlapp was a ally of Tony Sayegh. He was running for office. They began sparring in media. Schlapp said that when the Washington Examiner ran a story which contained negative criticisms of Sayegh she had a discussion with Sayegh.
